Encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle, Beth Ernst, the life enrichment manager at Splendido, has been selected to be the honorary race director for the Arizona Distance Classic.

“Honestly, it’s a huge honor, because I’ve pretty much devoted my career to helping people achieve a healthy lifestyle,” said Ernst. “I love this race because it’s open to everyone of all ages and abilities. The Arizona Distance Classic wants to get as many people involved as possible.”

This is the 10th anniversary of the Arizona Distance Classic, which is hosted by Ventana Medical Systems – a company that focuses on providing the most innovative and highest quality of cancer diagnostics solutions. The event includes the following races: half marathon wheelchair, half marathon, quarter marathon, 5k run/walk, kids fun run and the Splendido super mile.

The race also benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which is a non-profit health organization that raises money to help fund research, education and provide services for those with blood cancer.

This is the first year that Ernst has been selected as the honorary race director. As the director her primary role will be to kick off each section of the race and be there all day to support those participating and cheer them on.

“The mission of Splendido lines up with the mission of the Arizona Distance Classic,” said Ernst.

Ernst has worked in fitness and wellness for more than 16 years. For the past four years she has worked at Splendido as their life enrichment manager. In the position she manages the fitness center, teaches classes, conducts one-on-one consolations, supervises all programs, lectures and social gatherings.

“Fitness helps people maintain their strength and energy to be able to do everything they want to do. It helps maintain their independence,” said Ernst. “If you want to keep traveling you need to maintain and build up strength. It’s the catalyst to being able to get what you want out of life.”

In her spare time, Ernst likes to stay healthy by running, hiking, working out at the gym or walking her dog.
