Week 9 has been a battle between my mind and my body. I am trying to remain committed and really engage myself during my workouts, but my body is fatigued and ready for a break. Slowly, I can feel the "devil" of my body convincing the "angel" of my mind to come to the dark side.
I have found the new workout Steve made for me to be extremely difficult. Additionally, the combination of running plus circuit has made my quads scream out in rebellion. Within five squats of my workout, they were shaking and giving way on me, making a successful workout nearly impossible.
I took my two rest days off in a row to try to rejuvenate my body but instead my mind was brought down as well. On Monday, I decided to talk with Mike, the owner of the Anytime Fitness at Oracle and Magee. I am so lucky to have him as a resource during the times that I struggle. He reminded me that we all need a period of both physical and mental rejuvenation; this was my time and that is okay. He reminded me that while I may not be seeing "Biggest Loser" changes, I have lost 25% of my weight loss goal in just two months! And, he reminded me that I have worked very hard and that I deserve to enjoy myself.
With that, I begin a new approach. On those days that I feel stressed and unwilling, I will try something new instead of my "assignment." Also, yoga is a great way to relax, distress, and regain some perspective.
Things I learned this week: 1) I have done a great job so far. 2) Variety can really help in reigniting your enthusiasm. 3) Mike is awesome!

Hello readers and fellow dieters!
Well this week was a tough one as well as a awesome one. My fiance` and I as well as members of his family, mom dad and isas Nina and Tia Jia all came to surprise Isa on her fifth birthday at......wait for it......DISNEYLAND!!!! We had a great time for four days on the beach and in the parks and guess what everyone ...I fit in all the rides! Even those tiny kids rides that was so important to my daughter that I was with her! I walked all over that land of happiness for HOURS!
My feet were killing me, my calves were throbbing and the blisters were developing personalities. So to say the least I didn't search out an Anytime fitness that was in Anaheim and my diet wasn't up to the standards I have been holding myself to.
So no Tim the greek god trainer for four days, and on top of that I came down with the plauge.....ok just a really bad cold but I was miserable and I missed a few more workouts. Im dreading stepping on the scale again, sort of escaped reality while I was in Disneyland with my daughter and family, however im back in Tucson and ready to dominate that scale again!
Till next week!
Wishing you ibuprofen and Bengay!

With week 8 comes big changes. I got weighed and measured again and found some interesting results. I lost another 5 pounds with no significant change in body fat, but, amazingly, lost a total of about 9 ½"!! I was amazed. Of course though, Steve, my trainer, asked how I was feeling and, naively, I said "Fantastic!"
Little did I realize, that was gym talk for "we need to kick up this workout." So, on Wednesday, Steve had a whole new game plan. I can tell you that I have been sore for the last two days and am sure it will not be gone by tomorrow morning when I see him again. The funny thing was that I was originally a little relieved when he emailed me the workout. I saw downward dog and thought, "Oh, I can do that!" What I didn't realize was that the downward dog was only there to allow my heart rate to come down. He was not joking when he said that we weren't going to mess around!
Fatigue is still a bit of an issue for me but I am trying to work through it. I did manage to resume my running again despite the busy schedule and sore knee. I think with time and continued effort, these little "hiccups" in my path with soon fade away.
Thing I learned this week: It's ok if a workout is extremely tough and I'm not able to do it as well as I would like. If I keep trying, it will get easier.

Another week of working out. It is about 6 weeks into this fitness journey, and I am down 21 pounds! I am very encouraged by that, and have not lost over 20 pounds (and kept it off) before. I have tried healthy eating plans before and this is about the time I give up because it is so hard, and my old habits kick in.
I am not about to quit this time! I am feeling confident that because I have this opportunity of the challenge and the accountability of a trainer, (and many friends asking how it is going) I can do this. I can make it a lifestyle change over the course of the year.
I am starting to feel the benefits of healthy eating: a lot less headaches, less stomach issues, more energy...Don't get me wrong, a big, juicy cheeseburger sounds really good right now! But, it is getting easier to say "no" to unhealthy foods and sweets. I too am doing things in the gym I never thought possible.
I join a few other participants in the new-found acitivity of jogging (interval) which I have not done in 20 years! I am excited to see my body shape changing, ever so slowly! I am getting used to barely being able to walk for a few days each week! I am very blessed to have this opportunity and cannot wait to see the positive changes the next few months will bring.

This week has been a bit slow for me, as I have been taking care of my mother in Florida. Being out-of-town without my personal trainer makes it much harder to stay focused.
The experience has shown me the value of a personal trainer to keep you on track. If you have a fitness goal that you want to achieve, then get a personal trainer! Here in Tallahassee Florida, I have been doing some running with my brother-in-law and my nephew, which has been a great help in maintaining my fitness program.
My weight is hovering around 200 pounds, and I need to make a push to break through to a weight under 200. Last year at this time, I weighed 220, so overall I feel great with my progress.
My goal is to reach 170 pounds by the end of the year, which should be achievable with a daily workout and a diet of primarily vegetables, fruits, fish and poultry.
Stay fit my friends !

Officially it has been a month and nine days since this journey has begun. I believe it is settling into my good habits category. This past week has been a challenge. We did a killer leg work out, and I could not sit or walk very well. I believe it was a little to much for my poor legs to handle. Moreover, I believe it is a try and modify work out process.
I talked to Tim and said I couldn't deal with having to shuffle around and needed to back down on the work. Four days of recovery is not a good work out make. Tim agreed and said that he likes to push me to my limits atleast one day a week. Well, we found out what that was.
I am just grateful for the opportunity, and the ability of my trainer to listen to me. Overall it is a team effort! That is really what has impressed me about Anytime Fitness trainers. They don't tell you, "oh come on your making it worse than it really is." (This has happened at other gyms.)
I feel validated and cared for, and every session ends with a hug. Till next week!!!

Hello, Tucson, Jesse Morales here, not much to mention other than I feel like a steam roller just ran me over. I told Tim (my trainer), to push me, and guess what? He did.
I find myself doing stuff that I haven't been able to do in along time. I want to be able to do full splits on chairs again and play a game of pick up basketball without calling it quits after half a game.
Tim also had me running on the treadmill this week, I haven't run anywhere in a long time. I think I did pretty good, but whenever that happens I look at Tim and I see the wheels turning and I just know the next time I work out, its going to be twice as hard and twice as intense. I know what your saying, that's a good thing, and your right.
I promised my family and myself that I would do whatever it takes, no matter how much it hurts and no matter if I think I can't go on. I have people counting on me to do my best and that is what I'm going to do.

The problem I find with going through this lifestyle change is noticing everyone around me that isn't. I try and go to the gym five days a week and it gives me amazing endorphins that make me happy and good natured towards everyone! Even the guy that cuts me off on the freeway or a grim coworker whose sole mission in life is to makes everyone around them miserable. I usually notice that these individuals are smoking or eating crap from fast food joints and they probably haven't met Tim the fit, toned, hulking personal trainer who only wants you to be successful and achieve your goals.
Speaking of my golden trainer Tim, he had me run on the treadmill this week and I thought I could quite possibly die right there in the well lit gym while the Achilles clone shouted encouraging words.....but I did it!
Of course it was " interval training" as Tim would call it, whatever fancy fitness word that trainers come up with I was running, something I never thought I would do unless zombies were attacking.
Readers and fellow dieter take that plunge, join a gym buy a salad and get a good pair of running shoes because it is an adventure that wont disappoint. Wishing you sweat and dependable deodorant!

Hi there, John Miller here . . . . on the road to visit my mother & family members in Florida. My first thought was that my fitness program might take a "back seat" while traveling, but that is not the case. While driving to Florida, I stopped to fill up with gasoline, and right next to the local Wal-Mart, guess what I spotted: an Anytime Fitness facility in Longview Texas! I went in, and completed a full workout. Perfect way to stretch and exercise, after driving for six hours! . . . even took a shower, was refreshed and felt great!
Here in Tallahassee Florida now, I discovered that there are two Anytime Fitness facilities, right near my mother's home! My nephew will join me at the local Anytime Fitness center.
Also, my brother-in-law is in intensive training for the Boston Marathon, coming up in April.
Last night, we ran together. I ran the first few miles with him, then he continued for another 8 miles! It is great physical fitness for me, even though I am certainly not ready to run a marathon yet. So, even while traveling, and visiting other places, its still easy to maintain fitness, with the thousands of available Anytime Fitness centers.
Perhaps, the name should be Anytime ANYWHERE Fitness! I will definitely continue with my fitness program here in Florida. Well, 'til next time, stay fit, my friends!

Well it has officially been a month on the Anytime Fitness Challenge. I am feeling better physically, and mentally. My workouts this week have been hard, but good.
I had an issue with a swollen knee and sore achiles tendon. My weight is down five pounds if not more. I have not ventured on the scale....we are not friends. I always lose inches first and the scale lies to me so I don't listen to it!
Tim has me breaking up my workouts into body part groups. For instance, back and shoulders, biceps and triceps, legs and core etc.
We are still going for Monster sets with barely any rest. Also still running cardio blasts ugghhh, not my favorite. I just figure if I show up and do the work, change is bound to happen. Such is life.
