With my kids being out for summer, I have had a hard time getting in to the gym to work out. Instead, I’ve been doing videos at home or swimming in the pool. That being said, I rarely run anymore. But, with my husband home this afternoon, I was able to head to the gym for a little treadmill time.
I embarked on my normal run but got absorbed into the book I was reading. Next thing I knew, I looked at the screen and I had run 5 whole miles…nonstop! Incredible! I look back to some of my first training sessions and remember how I was huffing and puffing after 2 minutes at a slow 4mph jog. Now, here I am running at a very comfortable 6mph for 50 minutes, reaching 5 miles!
The change in my cardiovascular stamina is perhaps the biggest change I have seen in myself. Yes, I have lost 30 pounds, lots of body fat, and tons of inches, but I don’t necessarily see that. What I do notice very easily is that I don’t need my inhaler, my lungs don’t burn, and I don’t feel like my heart is going to explode. In fact, if a girlfriend had gone with me, I’m sure we could have chatted the entire run!
Thing I learned this week: 1) It never hurts to have a little distraction while you’re running.
