With civic engagement a great way to honor the contributions of Martin Luther King Jr., Pima Animal Care Center will be hosting a holiday walk for the dogs in the adoption center.
Jan. 21 is a holiday for County employees, so volunteers play an important role in making sure the pets get plenty of exercise and socialization. With picturesque Silverbell Lake directly behind the center at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, it’s a pleasant, communitybuilding experience. The Jan. 21 walk begins at 10 a.m.
“Volunteering is a natural way to pay tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and embrace efforts to bring about a more just world,” said Kim Janes, the Manager of the Pima Animal Care Center. “We’d be honored if folks would consider spending an hour of the day with us.”
No experience is necessary. A similar event on Christmas morning attracted 105 walkers, 72 of them brand new. A New Year’s Day Dog Walk drew 130 participants, with 73 of them new. Folks new to the center are free to show up, fill out an application and get walking. More experienced volunteers will be on hand to ensure a rewarding experience by matching
volunteers with pets, who vary in size and energy levels.
Cat lovers: We’ve got lots of cute kitties who could use a little snuggle time, too.
