University of Arizona junior running back Ka'Deem Carey has been named the 2013 Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Carey is Arizona's first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year honoree. Previously, the Wildcats had seven winners of the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Award. In 2005, wide receiver Mike Thomas was named Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year.

Also a Doak Walker Award finalist and a Heisman Trophy and All-America candidate, Carey is Arizona's all-time career rushing leader with 4,070 yards and is currently the nation's No. 2 rusher with 156 yards per game. He owns or shares 21 single-game, season and career school records and leads all NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision players with 15 straight 100-yard rushing games and 50 career touchdowns, also a UA school record.

Carey ranks second among all active FBS players with 20.5 rush attempts per game (career). He's tied for the national lead among active FBS players with 21 career 100-yard rushing games. The Tucson native has rushed for 100-plus yards in 15 straight games (longest streak in FBS) and in 19 of last 20 games played. He has 125-plus all-purpose yards in 15 straight games played.

Carey also earned unanimous All-Pac-12 First-Team honors for the second straight season. Also on offense, freshman receiver Nate Phillips was named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. On the season, he has 42 receptions for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. He leads the receiving group in scores.

On defense, senior linebacker Marquis Flowers, senior defensive lineman Tevin Hood, junior safety Jared Tevis and freshman linebacker Scooby Wright also earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Flowers leads all UA defenders with 86 total tackles.

Arizona's total defense has improved by nearly 100 yards per game from 2012 to 2013, making Arizona the fifth-most improved defense in the country.

Arizona has had four interception returns for touchdowns, enough to tie for fourth-most among FBS teams this season. The UA has intercepted 15 passes this season, its most in a single campaign since totaling 16 in 2008.

The Wildcats also rank in the top 30 nationally, forcing an average of 4.3 three-and-outs per game. Opponents are converting 39 percent of third downs against Arizona. The Wildcats are allowing two fewer touchdowns per game than in 2012 (24.7 point per game this year versus 35.3 points per game allowed in 2012).
