Best Teacher
April Bettilyon
Coyote Trail Elem.
April Bettilyon is a first grade teacher at Coyote Trail Elementary with 30 years of teaching experience, and nine of those years spent with Coyote Trail. She decided to become a teacher after struggling in school as a child and was determined to give children a better education growing up than she had.
Bonnie Abril
Painted Sky Elem.
Bonnie Abril has spent the last 12 years of her 20-year career as a first grade teacher with Painted Sky Elementary. She loves kids and wanted to become a teacher for as long as she can remember. Even as a child she played school with her friends and fittingly insisted on playing the teacher. Everyday, she enjoys every day watching her students grow.
Michele Thelen
Quail Run Elem.
Michele Thelen is in her 19th year at Quail Run Elementary where she is the gifted education teacher for kindergarten through sixth grade. Going to college in the 1970s, she said women became nurses or teachers, and she chose the latter. Even today, she wouldn’t have made a different choice because public education is where her heart is, and making those connections with her students and knowing she has made an impact on their lives is so rewarding.
