A search committee is seeking a replacement for Jerry Bustamante, the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce director who has taken a similar position in Chandler.
Paul Kappelman, chairman of the chamber board, said resumes are now being accepted. Interviews may occur in the next two weeks, he told the April 24 chamber breakfast crowd.
Earlier, Kappelman said the chamber anticipates “some excellent candidates for an excellent chamber. He’s left it in great shape. We think we’ll have somebody in place very soon.”
“This is me outside of my comfort zone,” Bustamante told the breakfast crowd when he spoke about his decision. “This is a loss of words for me. This is your chamber, I’ve said that over and over. I’ve just helped facilitate.”
Bustamante believes the Northern Pima chamber “will benefit from a new CEO with a different perspective and some new ideas. We have the best leadership in the community on our board of directors. We have great leadership, great staff, a great program of work, and that will continue.”
He is “extremely proud of the work we’ve done here, and everything the chamber has accomplished.”
Bustamante remains on the job through mid-May.
“It was a decision he thought long and hard about,” Kappelman said. “He has committed to make this as smooth a transition as possible.
“Transitions are exciting,” Kappelman said. “It’s exciting for Jerry, and it’s also an opportunity for the chamber.”
Bustamante was presented a plaque at last Thursday’s chamber breakfast. It read, in part, “we will miss you.”
