American Eagle Airlines began its new nonstop service from Tucson International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport at 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup, Tucson Airport Authority Chairman of the Board Rubin Salter, and American Airlines’ Tucson General Manager Daniel Rodriguez welcomed inbound passengers at 8:30 at Gate 7.

American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, Tucson’s oldest carrier, offers three daily round-trip flights between TIA and Los Angeles daily. The new service uses 44-seat Embraer jets.

The flights depart Tucson at 6 a.m., 9:35 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and arrive about 90 minutes later.

The new service provides increased travel options, including a convenient connection to Shanghai, as well as other destinations in Asia, Hawaii, and the Pacific.

It is part of a major expansion of the Los Angeles cornerstone hub that will add 33 flights to 15 communities for a total of 153 daily flights.
