Kumon, the world’s largest after-school education program, is opening a new center at 6004 N. Oracle Rd., in Casas Adobes.

There is a grand opening celebration this Saturday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local resident Carmen Anghel serves as the director.

“This is a wonderful time to speak with parents regarding their child’s education,” said Anghel. “With the new school year under way, I encourage parents to do a little ‘homework’ to make sure their child has the necessary math and reading skills and the self-confidence needed to master assignments and problem solve independently.”

Kumon Math and Reading Centers can assist students who may face difficulty in school and need to catch up, as well as those who need enrichment for advancement, a release said. Designed for students from pre-school to college level, Kumon helps children gain “the necessary confidence to achieve success in school and progress according to their abilities.”

Kumon’s method of individualized learning is intended to help all students “gain superior basic academic skills,” the release continued. Each child can become proficient at setting his or her own goals, progress at their own pace, and strive to achieve each goal by studying the materials that are appropriate to his or her ability, regardless of age and school grade.

Kumon also offers Junior Kumon, a special beginning level math and reading program for preschool and kindergarten students.

“No investment in this world can give the return that education gives,” said Anghel.
