Public service awards named after late Giffords’ aide
The Center for the Future of Arizona has announced the establishment of the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Awards, named in honor of Congresswoman Gabielle Giffords’ director of community outreach who lost his life during the Jan. 8 mass shootings while serving the citizens of Arizona.
“His dedication represents exactly what public service is all about – integrity, devotion to duty, genuinely caring about others and placing their interests above his own,” said Lattie F. Coor, the organization’s president and CEO, in a press release. “With the support of his family, we are deeply pleased to name the Public Service Awards program in Gabe’s honor.”
The awards will be conferred in three categories: leadership, innovation and civic engagement. The inaugural honorees will be recognized at the 2011 National Conference on Citizenship, to be held in Phoenix on Sept. 22-23.
The deadline for nominations is July 22.
