The Loop
The Loop is 55 miles of car-free paths being developed around metropolitan Tucson, with links to Marana and Oro Valley, for Pima County residents and visitors on foot, bikes, skates and horses. If it doesn’t have a motor, it’s good to go on The Loop.
The Loop connects the Rillito River Park, the Santa Cruz River Park, the Julian Wash Greenway, the Harrison Greenway and the Pantano River Park.
The Loop will connect to parks, trails, bus and bike routes, workplaces, schools, restaurants, hotels and motels, shopping areas, and sports and entertainment venues.
Over 38 percent of the metropolitan population lives within one mile of The Loop.
Pick up a copy of The Loop map at 3500 W. River Road, the Communications Office on the ground floor of the Administation Building at 130 W. Congress or one of many local bike shops.
Santa Cruz River Park
Located along the banks of the Santa Cruz River, the park runs from Twin Peaks Road to 29th Street. Another section, which includes El Paseo de los Arboles Commemorative Park, runs from Ajo Way to Drexel Road. The Santa Cruz River Park includes the Anza Trail, part of a National Trail system following the historic route taken by Juan Bautista de Anza on his trek to establish the modern-day city of San Francisco, California.
With ADA accessible facilities, the park offers bicycling, drinking water, equestrian access, exercise stations, hiking/walking, historic sites, playgrounds, restrooms and wildlife viewing.
Cañada del Oro River Park
The May 2004 General Bond Election provided $5 million for the design and construction of a river park on the Cañada Del Oro (CDO) Wash between Thornydale Road and the north end of Omni/Tucson National Golf Course near La Cholla Boulevard. The project was divided into two (2) phases, Phase 1 was to provide for a river park on the east bank of the CDO from Magee Road to the north end of Omni/Tucson National Golf Course at La Cholla Boulevard. Phase 2 extended the river park on the east bank of the CDO from Thornydale Road to Magee Road.
In 2011, the portion of the CDO from Thornydale Road to Magee Road was renamed to Cañada del Oro Christina-Taylor Green Memorial River Park. Christina-Taylor Green was one of the victims of the January 8, 2011 shooting at a Congress on Your Corner event held by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
