A fall author's event featuring a novel by a SaddleBrooke resident is being held Friday, Oct. 30.
Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries present a ticketed, hors d'oeuvres and cash bar event in the MountainView ballroom. It begins at 3 p.m. that Friday.
SaddleBrooke resident M. E. (Betsy) Harrigan is speaking about her new novel, 9800 Savage Road: A Novel of the National Security Agency.
It is described as the first book – fiction or non-fiction – published about the 57-year-old NSA by an insider, "and it was no small feat to get many of its details approved by the pre-publication agency reviewers," a release said. Harrigan's website is www.meharrigan.com.
Harrigan spent eight years writing the book, in which she discusses the difficulties she faced in getting it approved by the NSA pre-publication reviewers, and "the careful balance needed between fact and fiction to write such a realistic and thrilling novel," a release said.
Harrigan served with the NSA for 27 years in a variety of positions, including Somali linguist, technical editor, missile systems analyst, and manager of ELINT engineers and projects.
Harrigan and her husband Bill have lived in SaddleBrooke for seven years.
Tickets are now available for $15 at the MountainView Clubhouse ticket office, located at 38759 S. Mountain View Blvd., and open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
9800 Savage Road will be available for purchase at the event, and Harrigan is signing copies. All profits from book sales that day go to the Friends of Saddlebrooke Libraries.
