Public art tours are being conducted by the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council on Saturday, June 13.

Gail Munden, local artist and designer of the first Oro Valley public art book, is leading up to 55 people through Oro Valley neighborhoods, streets and commercial developments where public art has been installed. Tour participants can learn about the artists, their creative process and a history of Oro Valley's public art, a release said.

A tour begins in front of the water tanks at Oro Valley Marketplace at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13. The journey, on an air-conditioned coach with room for up to 55 people, should last approximately three hours, and includes complimentary water and a keepsake public art brochure.

Cost is $25. For more information or to book the tour, call 797-3959. Space is limited, reservations are strongly recommended.

The Town of Oro Valley began commissioning works of art in 1997 with the passage of an ordinance mandating the equivalent of 1 percent of the construction budget of all commercial developments and public works projects be dedicated to public art. Today, the public art collection includes more than 40 projects highlighting many of Arizona's outstanding artists as well as artists from across the U.S. The collection includes photography, sculptures, paintings, textiles, stained glass, murals, steel, iron and ceramics.
