SaddleBrooke Community Outreach has scheduled its 13th annual fund-raising walkathon on Oct. 24.
SaddleBrooke Community Outreach is "dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of school children … through improved self-respect, better school attendance and higher scholastic achievement," sponsorship chair Merna Oakley said in a June 15 letter.
In 2008-'09, the non-profit, volunteer organization used funds to provide more than 3,500 wardrobes for more than 2,000 needy children, tutor more than 500 students a week, give 19 students college scholarships, and offer summer enrichment activities for 500 children.
In total, it served 3,000 youngsters with monies from various fund-raisers, the walkathon being its signature event "and one of our most popular."
Sponsorships, from $200 to $4,000, are now being pursued. Participating businesses have their names and logos printed on T-shirts worn by every walkathon participant.
For more information, contact Oakley at mernaoakley@wbhsi.net, or at 825-1420. Tax-deductible contributions to SaddleBrooke Community Outreach may be mailed to the organization at 63675 E. SaddleBrooke Blvd., Suite L, Tucson, 85739. An Aug. 3 deadline was set to ensure business logos are printed on shirts.
"Thank you for your generosity and help in making a difference in a child's life," Oakley concludes.
