The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is providing free spay and neuter surgeries on two Fridays in February.

Pet owners can take advantage of the service by showing up at HSSA's spay / neuter clinic on Friday, Feb. 12 or 26.

A fertile cat can produce up to 18 kittens in one year, and a fertile dog can produce up to 20 puppies annually.

"By spaying or neutering your pet now, you can prevent countless of puppies or kittens from facing homelessness, neglect, or even worse, a release said. Spaying and neutering can improve a pet's health and well-being, it continued. "You'll also see a marked improvement in the behavior of your pet."

Sign-in starts at 7 a.m., first come, first served. Recommended arrival time is 6 a.m. Thirty free sterilization surgeries are offered each day. Animals must be leashed or crated, unfed since 8 p.m. the prior day, at least two months old and not more than five years old.

The clinic is located at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson.

For more information, call 327-6088 ext. 140 or log on to www.hssaz.org.

Shelter adoption and receiving hours are Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
