Big diabetes walk this Saturday at Fenton park
More than 1,500 area residents are gathering this Sunday, Oct. 4, at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park to raise funds for Tucson's Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes, the signature fundraising walk benefiting the American Diabetes Association.
"Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all," said Joe Cristiani, chairman of Tucson's Step Out. He said the walk is "a wonderful event for friends and co-workers to come together and help raise money for a good cause. The camaraderie and spirit that is enjoyed by participating in this event is priceless."
Today, there are nearly 24 million Americans — including 119,000 in Southern Arizona — who have diabetes.
To date, the American Diabetes Association has raised and donated more than $450 million for diabetes research. Two research projects are currently being funded at the University of Arizona.
