A Northwest church presents Joe Bourne and fellow musicians in its annual free "Jazz Under the Stars" event this Saturday, June 13.
Now in its fifth year, Dove of Peace Lutheran Church's Jazz Under the Stars has become "a celebrated tradition in northwest Tucson," a release said.
In addition to presenting fine local jazz artists (including Crystal Stark of American Idol fame), attendees enjoy refreshments in the open-air east patio, sipping wine with cheese and feasting on a variety of baked goods "that only the best church ladies in town could produce."
Bourne, the Oro Valley jazz artist, has appeared with The Stylistics, Natalie Cole, The Pointer Sisters and Dionne Warwick. Bourne teams with his SPS trio: Sly Slipetsky on keyboard, Pete Swan on drums and Scott Black on bass.
All ages are welcome to this free event. A free-will offering is taken to support UA Lutheran Campus Ministry.
"This is not a church event, but rather a very informal event for the whole community, to which everyone is invited to bring their appetite for musical and edible treats -- lawn chairs optional."
In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be given inside the church.
