Tuba Christmas returns to Oro Valley this Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m.
Tuba and euphonium players gather on the main stage at the Oro Valley Festival of the Arts “to ring in the season with some classic holiday tunes,” a release said.
The performance features low-pitched brass instruments, organized through the international group TubaChristmas and underwritten by Oro Valley resident Bill Adler.
The tuba group was founded more than three decades ago as a tribute to the late artist and teacher William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day, 1902. The first-ever performance took place on New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Dec. 22, 1974.
The Harvey Phillips Foundation’s TubaChristmas has volunteer coordinators throughout the country, Canada and Europe, who every year recruit players for a variety of tuba/euphonium performances.
