On Feb. 12, the Tucson Alumnae Panhellenic will hold its annual brunch to raise funds for collegiate scholarships given to Greek women attending the University of Arizona. The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church, 915 E. Fourth Street. Registration and silent auction will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by brunch at 10:45.

The guest speaker will be University of Arizona Athletic Director Greg Byrne.

The $20 ticket price offsets the cost of brunch and helps create at least one $1,000 scholarship each year. Past fundraisers have been successful enough to enable TAP to award multiple scholarships each year, a goal TAP hopes to repeat.

“With the cost of education on the rise, we want to help every deserving collegian have a chance to apply for our scholarships,” said Tucson Alumnae Panhellenic Association President Katherine Leary. “Our silent auction will have many autographed sports items from college and professional teams around Arizona, so we encourage men and women alike to attend the gourmet brunch, and help fill the scholarship fund.”

The program includes the presentation of the 2011 Athena Award for Panhellenic Service. First awarded in 1975, the Athena Award is an annual award given to recognize outstanding Tucson alumnae in the areas of professional, Panhellenic and philanthropic achievement. In 1982, TAP began rotating the area of achievement over a three-year period between the three categories.
