Three nominees of the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council are finalists for 2009 Lumies Arts Awards.
GOVAC co-founder and volunteer Bob Weede, artist and volunteer Gail Munden, and corporate partner Ventana Medical Systems are in the running for awards Thursday, May 7, when the Tucson Pima Arts Council holds its annual Lumies event at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave., Tucson. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at 624-0595, ext. 10.
Munden is a nominee for the "arts supporter" Lumie, given to an individual or organization "who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing the arts in the community through advocacy, promotion and / or development of the arts," a release said.
Ventana Medical Systems has been nominated along with Cox Communications and Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc., "for outstanding support of the arts."
Tohono Chul Park is a nominee for recognition as an established arts organization.
Northwest artists Joe Bourne and To-Ree-Nee Wolf McArdle are nominees for the "lifetime achievement" award, given to "an individual artist who has sustained excellence and innovation in their field of art over a significant number of years."
