The walls of Fountains at La Cholla are covered with art.
Residents of the retirement community who have artistic gifts have brought out their best work for an annual exhibit — the biggest so far — which, this year, runs through Friday, Sept. 12.
The show is eclectic. The 120 pieces in it include paintings, jewelry and wooden carvings, but that’s not all. There’s also a miniature sewing basket that would fit in the palm of a child’s hand, which is equipped with every provision imaginable.
One resident knitted a heavy Norwegian sweater with an Olympic pattern. Another cross-stitched a sepia-toned portrait of herself as a child when, wide-eyed and sporting a big hair bow, she passed through Ellis Island.
