SAACA, mall owner offering Thursday night tunes at mall

A new partnership between the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and General Growth Properties is bringing the sounds of local bands to Park Place Mall every Thursday through October.

The Park Place Mall Concert Series features performances by top musicians in nearly every genre imaginable, from jazz and blues to country/western and Native American music, a release said.

Admission to each show is free of charge.

Each Thursday show starts at 6 p.m., taking place either at the outdoor pavilion between Bamboo Club and Forever 21 (in May and during the fall) or indoors in the Park Place food court (June through August).

Brooklyn-born jazz impresario Richard Benetar takes the stage at 6 p.m. Friday, May 13. Benetar splits his time between Tucson and Yonkers, N.Y.

June 3: Heather O'Day (jazz vocals)

June 10: Desert Sun String Band (bluegrass and country/western)

June 17: Homero Ceron (jazz vibes)

June 24: Drew Dieg Bennet (flamenco guitar)

July 1: Sherry Finzer (flute/guitar)

July 8: Ergo Logic (jazz fusion)

July 15: The Guilty Bystanders (Americana)

July 22: Mood Swing (jazz fusion)

July 29: Bill Ganz (country/western)

Aug. 5: Jesse Tovar (jazz sax)

Aug. 12: Jimmy and the Jitterbugs (swing)

Aug. 19: Rafael Moreno (Latin jazz)

Aug. 26: Arvel Bird (Native American violinist)

Sept. 2: Reno Del Mar (Latin acoustic)

Sept. 9: Plan B Blues Band (jump blues)

Sept. 16: Nick Stanley (jazz piano)

Sept. 23: Retro Swing 7 (swing) \

Sept. 30: Estun-bah (Native American flute/guitar)

Oct. 7: Sweet Willie D Blues (Memphis blues)

Oct. 14: Mark Willis (piano jazz/Broadway tunes)
