“An Afternoon with Gabriel Ayala,” to help “Tucson families in financial crisis,” is being staged at the Berger Performing Arts Center, on the campus of the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, 1200 W. Speedway Blvd.
It begins at 3 p.m. Admission is $20. For tickets, call Shar at 297-2738, ext. 209, or go to www.icstucson.org.
Ayala is one of the Arizona Daily Star’s “Nine to Watch in 2009.” He is a member of the Yaqui Nation of Southern Arizona, and stands “at the forefront of a new generation of Native Americans making a career performing classical music,” a release said.
Ayala began playing the guitar as a child, and would later study with Philip Hii. He earned a master’s degree in music performance from the University of Arizona in 1997, has taught at all educational levels from elementary school through college, and serves as a competition judge. He performs regularly across the country, and has released three albums.
