“Ed Gein, The Musical," the controversial indie film about a murderous, cannibalistic necrophiliac, will have its Arizona premiere this weekend at The Screening Room, 127 E. Congress St., in downtown Tucson.
Shows will take place at 8 p.m. on both Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30. The play's writer and co-producer, Dan Davies, will introduce both showings and lead a question-and-answer period afterward. Davies also plays the title character in the film.
The blog site Under the News said of the film, "Somewhere down deep inside where only God and Eddie Gein have explored, I want to be offended by this, but I just can't. If we can celebrate Sweeney Todd and John Dillinger, then Eddie deserves his screen time, too."
Screenwriter Michael Blake, who won the Academy Award for his adapted screenplay of "Dances with Wolves," will be Davies' guest at one showing. Davies could not confirm at press time which show.
Blake, who resides in Tucson, and Davies are friends.
