Oro Valley is participating in Bike to Work Week.
Oro Valley's Bike to Work Day is this Friday, April 9, with activities from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Rooney Ranch shopping center, on the northwest corner of First Avenue and Oracle Road. Snacks, information and giveaways are available, according to a release from the town's parks and recreation department.
Regional Bike Fest 2010 is organized primarily by the City of Tucson Bicycle & Pedestrian Program. The program takes place throughout the region during April.
Oro Valley established a bicycle and pedestrian program in 1999. The town is "committed to providing bicycle routes and facilities that encourage the use of alternate modes of transportation," the release said.
Oro Valley has received the "Gold" level Bicycle Friendly Community Award for 2006-2008 and 2008-2012 from the League of American Bicyclists.
