A shipping container filled with clothing, sports equipment and school supplies soon will embark on a journey from a church parking lot in the Northwest to a country on the western coast of Africa.
On March 7, supporters of Project Angola, a program to distribute needed supplies to school children in the war-torn country, will gather at Grace Community Covenant Church to load the container. The public is invited to help. Project Angola still needs basic school items, good winter and summer clothing and shoes, blankets and soccer equipment, including balls, ball pumps and uniforms.
The contents of the container will be distributed through Rise International, an organization that works with churches in Angola to build schools. Angola has endured much devastation resulting from 27 years of civil war.
To donate, drop off items at the church, 9755 N. La Cholla Blvd., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday on March 7 or before. Also, you can drop off items at Ironwood Ridge High School, 2745 W. Naranja Drive.
