A monthlong run of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” will kick off with two preview nights, Feb. 27-28, at the University of Arizona’s Tornabene Theatre.

The early viewings will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Monday. A special $17 ticket is offered for the previews.

Subsequent evening performances are scheduled for 7:30 on March 2-5, 10-12, and 25-26 with matinees at 1:30 on March 6, 12, 26-27.

This pastoral comedy features one of Shakespeare’s most inspiring characters, the heroine Rosalind. Disguised as a boy, Rosalind flees her repressive uncle’s court for the forest of Arden, where she discovers her true love, Orlando. As Orlando pines for his lost love, Rosalind, she befriends him in her guise as a boy and promises to cure his heartache.

One of Shakespeare’s best-known comedies, “As You Like It” examines the cruelties and corruption of court life and gleefully pokes holes in one of humankind’s greatest artifices — the conventions of romantic love.

The show is being performed by UA’s Arizona Repertory Theatre under the direction of Brent Gibbs. It runs about two hours long and has a 15-minute intermission.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $26 for senior citizens, UA employees and military and $19 for students.

Tickets can be purchased at the UA Fine Arts box office, by calling 621-1162 or visiting www.arizona.tix.com.
