Sonoran Science Academy’s drama and musical theater teacher, Ashlee Votroubek, recently added a new talent to her resume. Inspired by the veterans from a local VFW post, “Ms. V,” as she is known by her students, sat down to compose a fitting tribute to all veterans, but particularly those of World War II.
The result is SSA’s original production “I’ll Be Seeing You!” The musical embraces its audience in a sweeping romantic story of a young Iowan couple whose happiness is threatened by the realities of war. It will be performed at 7 p.m. April 7-8 at the Pima Community College Center of Arts, West Campus, 2202 W. Anklam Road.
Featuring a nostalgic storyline, vibrant dance numbers and a collection of the most popular songs from the era, Votroubek promises a stunning, patriotic spectacular celebrating the “greatest generation in their finest hour.”
Ms. V and her dedicated cast are no strangers to performing for vets. They have given several performances at a local VFW post, and many SSA students volunteer in activities that support veterans.
“I have some amazingly talented students who love to act, live to dance and adore every opportunity they get to sing,” said Votoubek. “To do all of that in honor of veterans is the icing on the cake.”
Advance tickets cost $7 and are available from the SSA front office, 2325 W. Sunset Road. Tickets also may be purchased at the door for $8. Military personnel may purchase tickets for $4. For group pricing, email Votroubek at firstname.lastname@example.org.
