The Heart Series, a medically directed, 12-week program dedicated to heart health, begins two fall programs the first full week of September.

One is Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8-Nov. 24. The other is Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9-Nov. 25. Cost of the program is $300, and it is tax deductible. Participants must register to attend. It is held at Edna Silva's Center for Wu Style T'ai Chi Chuan, 1711 West Ina. The phone number is 544-3720.

The program is a 36-hour, interactive, comprehensive program created by Dr. Charles Katzenberg, who practices preventive cardiology, and Silva, a registered nurse and cardiac rehabilitation specialist who was most recently coordinator of the heart failure clinic for Northwest Medical Center.

The Heart Series "is right for anyone who wants to prevent, halt, stabilize and reverse coronary artery disease," a release said.

Participants receive a heart owner's manual, a recipe collection, a compact disc on safe exercise and relaxation. The session includes 12 vegetarian potluck dinners.

The heart series is sponsored by the Foundation for Cardiovascular Health, a non-profit community foundation.
