Works of three photographers are highlighted in the final gallery opening of the 2010 Visual Arts Exhibition and Competition series at Ventana Medical Systems in Oro Valley.

Photographers Laurie Larwood, Alan Magazine and Randy Metcalf are featured in the photography exhibition, which has its opening night reception Thursday, Oct. 7.

More than 23 local and national artists are exhibiting photography in the 2010 abstract and contemporary art competition. Participating artists are Linda M. Bennett, Anupama Condon, Joe Bourne, Rebecca Bushner, Jennie Collins, Ellen A. Fountain, Carol Gloriosa, Elsa Jacklitch, Robert Johnston, Chrystal McConnell, Brigette Michel, George Miraben, John O'Hagen, Frances Pearson, Marco Pennacchini, Maurice J. Sevigny, Samantha Sherman, Edlynne M. Sillman, Ernesto A. Trujillo, Wendi Plenge, Susan Donath, Robert Munoz and Virginia A. Ross.

"Through this event, SAACA hopes to educate and inspire others to join as a community, working together through art, and pass these connections on to future generations," said Kate Marquez, executive director of the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance. SAACA is partnering with Ventana to host the 2010 amateur and professional photography exhibition and competition reception.

Photography is on display through Jan. 4. The gallery is open to the public Wednesdays from 9 a.. to noon and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m.
