The Christian Youth Theater is gearing up for the first show of the 2011-2012 season, with a production of “Beauty and the Beast,” starting Oct. 27.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, the Broadway version of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast’ includes all the songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice.
CYT Tucson will have six public performances between Oct. 27 and Oct. 30 at the Pima Community College Center for the Arts Proscenium Theatre.
CYT Tucson is a local nonprofit theater arts organization providing instructional classes and live musical performance opportunities for Tucson youth between ages 6 and 18.
Its most recent fully staged shows include “Les Miserables” and “Willy Wonka” at the Fox, “Oklahoma” at Pima Community College, and “Annie” at Crowder Hall at the University of Arizona.
Artistic directors Jon and Kathy Thuerbach are recent recipients of the Arizona “Making Children’s Lives Better” Award.
The 2011-2012 season will also include “Alice in Wonderland” and “Seussical the Musical.”
