'Standing up rocks' in Chiricahuas

Rick Metcalf/Special to The Explorer, Below and west of Inspiration Point, thousands of pillars, posts, columns and balanced rocks line the canyon walls of Upper Rhyolite Canyon in Chiricahua National Monument. Rhyolite ash spewing from a volcano 27 million years ago laid the foundation for these formations.
