Splendido, an industry-leading Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), has put down solid roots in Tucson, as it has brought hundreds of jobs to Oro Valley, won multiple awards for its range of services to the 55+ community, and paid off its mortgage early - all during its first five years of operation.

“Since we opened our doors in 2006, Splendido has grown into a community of more than 300 residents with 167 dedicated employees, and we’re proud to have made a positive impact on Tucson — not only as a wonderful place to retire, but as an employer as well,” said Tom Rios, Executive Director of Splendido.  “We are strong and forward-thinking with an ability to expand to suit the demands of a growing older adult population, even as their health care needs change.”

Splendido’s resort-style living offers a wide variety of activities and amenities for residents, including a 10,000-square-foot fitness center and spa, a movie theater, and an 18-hole putting course. If health care needs arise, there is access to on-site health care at Sonora, a comprehensive health center, which provides a range of services including short-term stays, assisted living, memory support and rehabilitation. Sonora at Splendido has been given the highest five-star rating by US News and World Report three years in a row.

Splendido has earned more than 15 awards since 2006, including Gold Awards for best overall and best active adult community by the National Active Retirement Association.  Most recently in February 2012, Splendido received one Innovation Award, one Gold Award, and one Silver Award, from the National Association of Home Builders. One of the award-winning programs honored was, “Gestures of Joy” a resident-led group that performs around Tucson delighting audiences with an original combination of music and movement.  Giving back to the community through volunteerism is part of life for many Splendido residents, who most recently donated more than 2,200 household items to the VA Hospital in Tucson.

Residents enjoy living in an award-winning architectural setting, partaking in delicious meals and interesting cultural and social programs, while having access to the many diverse attractions of Southern Arizona.

Splendido is a joint venture between Mather LifeWays, an Evanston, Illinois not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults, and The Plaza Companies, an award-winning developer in Peoria, AZ.
