On Saturday, April 14, the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association will partner with six local hospitals to deliver free, comprehensive stroke assessments from 8 a.m. to noon, as part of the annual StrokeCheck program.
Stroke is the number four killer in the U.S., and a leading cause of disability.
During each StrokeCheck exam, medical professionals will provide a thorough health assessment, which may include blood pressure checks, cholesterol and glucose screenings, ultrasound scans, pulse check and cardiac rhythm strip. Medical professionals will patiently explain the results to each patient, and provide copies of screening results that patients can save for their records.
No appointment is required, and patients may visit the hospital that is most convenient to them.
Screenings will be held for Oro Valley and Marana residents at two locations. The first location is at the Northwest Medical Center, 6200 N. La Cholla Blvd.
The second location is at the Oro Valley Hospital, located at 1551 E. Tangerine Rod.
StrokeCheck screens more than 600 patients each year, with demand for this free service growing each year. The program is vital to the health of the community. In fact, each year, several patients must be rushed to the emergency room because of risk factors which are unknown and uncontrolled.
