Researchers from University of Pittsburgh studied the effects of volunteerism on adults 50 and older, and found that in supportive volunteer environments, volunteers found purpose, satisfaction, and good health later in life while giving back to society.

For those interested in volunteering their time to a non-profit organization, finding the perfect volunteer opportunity is just a mouse click away.  Websites such as www.volunteermatch.org and www.volunteersoaz.org can connect area residents with a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the Tucson area.

For example, Gestures of Joy is an all-volunteer music group of approximately 20 Splendido residents. The group regularly visits area hospitals, nonprofits, special events, and schools to provide performances and enjoyment to all. You can see them perform at the 14th Annual Oro Valley Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration at the Oro Valley Marketplace on Friday, Dec.6 at 5 p.m.; or catch them at Splendido’s Holiday Brunch at 13500 N. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., on Wednesday, Dec.11 at 10 a.m. Reservations are required to attend the brunch. Please call 878-2612.
