A child was injured during a late morning house fire in Oro Valley. At about 11 a.m., firefighters from Golder Ranch Fire District and Police Officers from the Town of Oro Valley were called to the 400 West block of Klinger Canyon for a house fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single family residence with smoke and flames showing from the front of the house. Golder Ranch Fire Fighters made an aggressive interior attack, quickly knocking down the fire after the roof was opened for ventilation.

As other units began to arrive on scene, rescuers were made aware of a minor patient who sustained injuries during the fire and was across the street. Golder Ranch Fire Paramedics immediately provided care to the child who was then flown by helicopter to University Medical center for treatment of burn and smoke injuries.

The child was rescued from the house by a landscaping crew working in the neighborhood, who heard banging on the front window. Utilizing a shovel, the crew was able to break out the window, pulling the child to safety.

Investigators from Golder Ranch Fire and the Oro Valley Police Department are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Golder Ranch would like to remind everyone to take the appropriate steps to minimize the chance of a fire or injuries occurring from them in homes. Make sure that you have properly installed smoke detectors and fire extinguishers available in the house. Additionally, establish and practice EDITH - Exit Drills In The Home - just in case a fire does occur.
