Recently I have been blessed to have another mom in my life. It has been a little over two years that I have been married to my husband Tyson; my new future with him brought five more brothers and sisters, and another set of parents. Over the short period of being married I have been able to gain an appreciation and respect for my mother-in-law. For mother’s day I want to share why DoraLea Polley is the best “new” mom to have in my life.

One reason I feel DoraLea is the best mom is because of her persistence in serving others. Her service is not only for her children, it extends to those who she meets on a daily basis. She shows her love to people as she pays attention to the little details in their life. As she gets to know others she finds the needs in their lives and tries to meet them to the best of her ability. Currently I am finishing my online degree and I have an 8 month old baby. My mom is quick to offer to watch my son when she knows I have a lot of homework or a test. This may seem like a small task but it shows how she is aware of the help that I can benefit from.

Not only does she offer service, but she is proactive and hardworking. The question she asks is never, “Can I help you?” Instead she assumes the she can be of help and sets a time and place that she will put her thoughts into action. I never see her sitting around waiting for different tasks to get done; she always works until the job is done. One time we had been working on painting a dresser for our apartment and did not quite finish the job. We left it at her house and before we had a chance to go back she did touch ups on the dresser and brought it over to our apartment. There are so many examples of DoraLea exemplifying her role as a hardworking mother.

Another quality I admire in my mother-in-law is her ability to recognize people’s talents and make them feel of worth. At the dinner table her children have shared times that she has written a letter thanking someone for their talk given at church, or calling someone to tell them how grateful she is for their example to her. This does not surprise me at all because I have been a recipient of her sincere compliments. Whether it is in a note around holiday times, or a phone call stating her appreciation, she always makes me feel that I am loved.

Although this short essay could be much more extensive, I just want to share with DoraLea the wonderful qualities she has that have had an impact on me. I want to wish her a happy mother’s day along with all of the other influential women in my life.
