Paul Emmert, the Oro Valley resident and co-owner of Alive Fitness and Training, flies commercial aircraft for a living.
For years, he's flown over Mount Rainier, the 14,410-foot dormant volcano in Washington state. For years, he's wanted to climb it.
First, Emmert had to get in shape. He did. Then, this September, he claimed to the peak of Mount Rainier, reaching its summit Sept. 15.
"The climb was uneventful, and we were able to take advantage of a decent weather window that opened for us," Emmert said. "Were it not for being in excellent physical condition, I would have not prevailed."
Emmert is a certified health coach at Alive Fitness and Training, located on La Cañada at Lambert in Oro Valley.
