Twenty teams from eight states and Canada competed in the Antigua National High School Invitational on Sept. 7-8 at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale.

The boys’ teams from Canyon Del Oro and Ironwood Ridge participated in the event, battling wind and rain to place 9th and 14th respectively in a talent-packed field. Punahou School out of Hawaii, won the event with a score of 578. CDO’s final tally was 621, while Ironwood golfed a 631.

In individual play, CDO had some notable finishes, to include senior Jaime Waltmire (20th out of 100), and junior Frankie Wu (28th). Sophomore Daniel Rowland and sophomore Chris Meyers tied for 48th place, each golfing 159.

Ironwood Ridge fared well in individual play, with senior Kevin Goldstein finishing 24th, and senior Frankie Ortiz finishing 38th.

The Ironwood Ridge girls’ team competed in the girls’ bracket at the McCormick Ranch Palm Course, placing 9th out of 15, golfing a 716.

Senior Adrianna Grijalva and sophomore Victoria Browning led the way for the Nighthawks, each hitting 165. Trailing them was sophomore Sydney Colwill at 175, and senior Kenzie Rogers at 211.

The Punahou School won the girls’ bracket, golfing a 597.
