Every election year, the EXPLORER provides extensive coverage of the Oro Valley Town Council election and ballot questions. Though the election is not official until March 14, Oro Valley is using vote-by-mail for this election, which means Oro Valley voters will begin receiving their ballots in the mail after Feb. 9. Voters can fill out their ballots and return them to Oro Valley as soon as they get them.
To arm voters with the information they need to make an informed choice, the EXPLORER offers the following information:
€Profiles of the six council candidates (see story list, left)
€Profiles of mayoral candidates: Paul Loomis and Nancy Young Wright.
€The answers to three questions asked of all eight candidates.
€An examination of the issues surrounding Question 2 on the ballot, the Vestar/Oro Valley Marketplace tax incentive referendum.
€A brief story explaining Question 1, renewing the Home Rule Option allowing the town to exceed state imposed spending caps.
€ New this year and exclusive to Explorernews.com are candidate essays. Each of the eight candidates were asked to write a 1,000 word essay that explains "Why you should vote for me." The essays were then distributed to each of the candidates and they were given the opportunity to write brief rebuttals to each essay.
All of this information can found via the blue links in the column to the left. All of the EXPLORER's election stories and information will remain on the Web site through March 14.
