Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance partners with Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. to present employee art exhibition in Southern Arizona's largest community gallery

Since the window opened for Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. to showcase their employees through a dynamic exhibition, artistic talents have been seen in a new light.

On Thursday, July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m., the exhibit will be revealed for an opening reception featuring free hor d'oeuvres and wine at Ventana Medical Systems, 1910 E. Innovation Park Dr.

Through a progressive partnership with Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA), the arts have been part of the daily work experience for the employees who work at Ventana through quarterly gallery exhibits from local to world-renowned artists.

Ventana employees, who have defined creativity through their contribution to cutting-edge medical advancements, showcase their artistic talents each summer during Ventana Employee Art Exhibition and Competition. This year's works include collaborative quilts, intricate jewelry, innovative photography and exquisite paintings.

First, second and third place winners, chosen by a jury prior to the opening, will also be announced as well as four honorable mentions. Attendees can also vote on their favorite piece for the People's Choice Award.

The artworks will be showcased and sold at the Ventana Gallery, and the public is welcome to browse or buy during the length of the exhibit, continuing through September.

The Ventana Gallery is open to the public, by appointment, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To schedule an appointment, visitors should call the SAACA at (520) 797-3959. Advance notice of 48 hours is required.

The bigger picture The partnership between Ventana and SAACA exemplifies the art@work initiative of the Southern Arizona Business Committee for the Arts (SABCA). SABCA is an affiliate member of the Americans for the Arts National Business Committee for the Arts, founded in 1967 by David Rockefeller. The Committee helps the arts flourish by providing processes and programs for businesses to support art in education, the community and the workplace.

art at work provides SABCA member businesses with the resources needed to organize art exhibitions and programs where employees can bring the visual, literary and performing art they create to the workplace to share with for colleagues, visitors and clients. Another aspect of art at work brings special events - featuring local musicians, artists and performing arts groups - to the workplace during lunch or after hours.

Identifying, acknowledging and encouraging employee creativity is more important to business success than ever before. Art@work collaborates with both large and small entities to create new opportunities for employees and customers.

Participation in art@work may help companies to retain creative, quality individuals. It provides an outlet for artistic abilities, which would likely remain unnoticed in the busy day-to-day business schedule.

"The presence of art in the work environment is not only aesthetically pleasing," said Cathy Gawronski, Ventana customer experience manager, "art inspires employee creativity and collaboration in many cases."
