Tucson’s sweet side will be revealed as the city’s best pastry chefs, bakers and restaurants compete in Southern Arizona’s largest dessert competition on Friday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.

Sweet Charity will serve more than 50 desserts, cocktail and wine samplings, live music, silent auction, merchant specials and entertainment at Plaza Colonial shopping center outdoor courtyard, southwest corner of Skyline Drive and Campbell Avenue.

Presented by Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance, tickets are $55 per person with proceeds supporting educational and therapeutic arts programs in Arizona.

Attendees can also support the cause through an extensive silent auction. Items in the mix include free cookies for one year from Paradise Bakery, Aaron Neville Christmas Show tickets from Rialto Theatre and gift certificates from PrimaDonna, Chipotle, Bravo and Frost.

The auction will also present complimentary stays at Embassy Suites Tucson Paloma Village, Sheraton, Xanadu Ranch Getaway Guest Ranch and Inn Suites Hotels and Suites as well as a four-day Parkhopper Passes to Disneyland Resort.

Rich, creative, sweet and fruity cocktails will accompany the many desserts with signature blends from Skyline Country Club, JW Marriott Star Pass, Shlomo and Vito’s New York Delicatessen and Pizza Kitchen, Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa, Wildflower and more.

Wineries include Hops and Vines, a cheeky little winery in the Sonoita-area and warm place for families and wine aficionados alike; Vinocopia, serving Argentine and New Zealand wines in hand crafted barrels from reclaimed French and American oak casks; and the Wilhelm Family Vineyard, presenting new white chocolate and dark chocolate ports.

Showcasing the positive effects of arts education in the community, the Falcon Steel Drum Band from Catalina Foothills High School will perform during the event, and students from the Arts Institute will get the chance to create and display their best sweets for the competition.

Whether baked, chilled, frozen, chocolaty, fruity, full of candy or sweet and salty, attendees can sample a parade of pastries, cocktails and wine and vote on their favorite recipes. Restaurants will also be judged on Best Overall Presentation, Most Creative and the grand prize, Sweetest of the Sweet award.

Where: Plaza Colonial shopping center outdoor courtyard, southwest corner of Skyline Drive and Campbell Avenue
