Families will get their hands on more than 3 acres of LEGO building blocks this weekend at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

The LEGO Kidsfest makes its first trip to Arizona, and despite its name, LEGO officials said the event attracts different generations.

“We have grandparents who used to play with LEGO blocks as a kid and now they’re bringing their grandchildren, and the same goes for parents,” said Aaron Wartner, a spokesman for the LEGO Kidsfest.

Since 2009, the LEGO Kidsfest has toured several cities during the summer.

“It’s a great event, but people should be mindful that it’s not a yearly thing where we come on a regular basis,” he said. “Once we come here for a Kidsfest, we don’t return for at least 18 months so we give other cities an opportunity.”

And he added that it’s limited entrance into the festival.

“We sell a lot of tickets but we don’t overcrowd it because we want folks to have an enjoyable experience there,” he said.

The extravaganza features millions of LEGO bricks with construction zones, dozens of life-size LEGO models and displays, games and a masterbuilder who gives classes.

“This is an opportunity to experience LEGOs like never before,” said Wartner. “You’ll have the chance to have a lot of fun and learn all at the same time.”

In addition, families can buy plenty of LEGO products while at the Kidsfest.

“I can’t wait for people to really get the opportunity to be in the world of LEGO because it’s going to blow their minds what you can do with these building blocks,” he said.
