Understanding pain isn’t about just prescribing medication. For Dr. Eugene W. Johnson, it’s important to understand the full scope of your physical problems before administering treatment.
Dr. Johnson, owner of Southwest Sports and Spine, LLC in Tucson, and his staff provide comprehensive, compassionate care for patients with sciatica, arm and leg pain, neck and back pain, failed back syndrome, spinal stenosis, disc injuries, aches, pains, and headaches.
After an initial 30-60 minute evaluation, Dr. Johnson begins with a conservative approach to treatment such as manual medicine, spinal decompression or physical therapy. If those initial treatments aren’t successful,, Dr. Johnson will typically order an MRI. An evaluation of those images may suggest more aggressive interventional pain procedures. Most procedures are performed in his well-equipped office.
Dr. Johnson also treats sports-related problems including rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, hips, knees, ankles, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Dr. Johnson also offers prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma therapy for strengthening tendons and ligaments.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Johnson worked as a chiropractic physician. He graduated from medical school in 2002 and did his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, NY. Dr. Johnson is board-certified in Interventional Pain Management. He is fellowship-trained in Interventional Sports and Spine treatments from Ahwatukee Sports and Spine in Phoenix, AZ.
