DPS drug-sniffing dog is euthanized after being left in hot car

After being listed in stable condition early Thursday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the K-9 that was left in a hot car for more than an hour on Wednesday had to be euthanized.

The dog was left in a hot car while the officers changed vehicles. It is estimated that the dog was forgot in the car for more than an hour.

The K-9 was left inside the car for about an hour. At the time, outside temperatures were around 98 degrees, making the car about 115 degrees.

While DPS officials aren’t releasing the officer’s name.

The officer has been put on administrative leave while the investigation into the incident continues.

This is the time of year where animal owners are warned to be cognizant of the heat, as a dog doesn’t handle the heat as well as a human.
