On Tuesday morning around 6 a.m., Pima County Sheriff's deputies from the Foothills District responded to a reported collision in the 1400 block of West Rudasill Road between West Calle Kino and North La Canada. Upon arrival, deputies found Peter Morse,55, suffering from life threatening injuries after being struck by a motorist.

Morse was transported to the Trauma Center at the University Medical Center where he died.

Pima County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit investigators responded to the scene for further investigation. It was determined that Morse was walking westbound on West Rudasill when he was struck by an eastbound traveling Toyota passenger vehicle driven by James Douglas Soukup, 69.

After an initial investigation, Traffic Unit investigators arrested Soukup for Causing Serious Physical Injury or Death by a Moving Vehicle; Driving without Due Care; and Failure to Control Speed to Avoid an Accident.

The investigation continues.
