On Dec. 12, Officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to an armed car jacking call in the 5400 block of East Speedway.
Officers located the vehicle and a pursuit ensued with assistance from the Air Support Unit.
The suspect abandoned the vehicle in an alley near Stewart Avenue/2nd Street. Containment was quickly set in the area and several officers to include Officer Fenoglio and his K-9 partner, Ivan, confronted the armed suspect in the front yard of a residence.
The confrontation led Ivan being released towards the armed suspect who shot Ivan as he bit his left arm. The suspects movement with the gun following the shooting of Ivan led to multiple officers shooting the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ivan was transported to Valley Animal Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
