Mark Frieberg of the Arizona Game and Fish Department holds a baby javelina recovered by a motorist Wednesday morning from the area of Speedway Boulevard and Greasewood Road.
The javelina is so young that its umbilical cord is still attached. The javelina was transported to the Tucson Wildlife Center.
Game and Fish recommends against rescuing apparently orphaned or injured wildlife. The mother of the javelina was probably nearby. A better course of action would have been for the motorist to just move the javelina off the road. Wildlife animals taken from the wild are difficult to successfully return to the wild.
