The Foothills Optimist Club, for the eighth year, has donated money to the Marana Pool program by providing free passes to underserved youth.

“The program is for young people who can’t afford pool passes,” said Marana Mayor Ed Honea. “We really appreciate what they do for the community.”

On June 13, representatives from the Foothills Optimist Club presented Honea with a $1,000 check at the Marana Pool. The club has donated a total of $15,000 in the last eight years.

The Foothills Optimist Club is one of 27 optimist clubs located in Tucson. Each club fundraises throughout the year in order to raise funds for specific projects that are geared toward helping kids. The Foothills Optimist Club’s main project is with the Marana Pool Pass Program and they have also recently started to help out the Catalina Pass Pool Program.

“We’ve been working closely with Marana for many years now,” said Club President Wally Smith. “It’s good because with other small projects we do the teachers help out as well. It’s good because our efforts are being combined with the community.”
