In what are still difficult economic times, families in Tucson and across the nation are continuing to struggle to make ends meet, even when it comes to some of life’s most common necessities.

“Just Between Friends”, a program that began in a neighborhood in Tulsa in 1997, has since evolved into 112 franchises in 22 different states, and has proven to be an economical solution to families right here in Tucson.

The program gives families an opportunity to profit from the sale of maternity and children’s items that families no longer need. These items include clothing, baby equipment, furniture, DVD’s, toys, and more. Sellers have access to receive 65 percent of the sale price, while also relieving unnecessary clutter around the house. Sellers who are also consigners have access to a convenient barcode labeling system on the website that will help track sales online.

As an effort to supplement the website, “Just Between Friends” will be hosting a local event for the public between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, where people will be able to buy lightly used items. Volunteers who take part in the event will also be able to participate in buying and selling, and will get to keep 70 percent of their own items sold.

Tucsonans looking to purchase children and maternity goods will find that they can do so without emptying their wallets. Families shopping the event will be able to save between 50 and 90 percent off retail prices, according to Heather Carver, Public Relations Manager.

“Just Between Friends” will also be holding a diaper drive alongside Macaroni Kid’s Southern Arizona Diaper Bank. With families spending an average of $100 a month on diapers, the partnership will help alleviate the high costs by attempting to meet the one and a half million diapers that are requested each year by families.

The “Just Between Friends” event in Tucson will be held at 1365 W. Grant Road. Shoppers will be able to pay with cash, check, or any major credit or debit card. All unsold items will be donated to Tucson Gospel Rescue Mission charity.

Admission: $2 on Thursday only.
